 "Great TV!" 2009-08-07
By Michigan J. Frog (Manassas, VA USA)
Solid LCD HDTV with a great set of features. Sound is decent, picture is amazing, and the menus are intuitive and accessible. Remote is well-designed and lights up in the dark. Got it 5 weeks ago, and with very few tweaks have enjoyed DVDs, HD programming, and Blu-ray. I plugged my cable feed directly into the TV, and with no cable box I get about 10 HD channels in addition to my normal channel lineup.

The swivel stand is sturdy and adjustable, and the 120Hz refresh rate is all you need for watching sports without blurring. Screen does not reflect much and picture is vivid even in bright sunlit rooms.

The Infolink feature is useless--if I want to check the weather or stock prices, I'll change the channel or jump on the web.

Pilot delivery service was extremely fast, coming the day after I placed my order, and the two guys were in and out in ten minutes.

I got this when Amazon was offering a free Blu-ray player with it. All told, a fantastic TV and flawless purchase experience from order to delivery. Buy this baby, you won't regret it!

"Excellent TV. Excellent Delivery Service" 2009-07-29
By R. Hochstetler (Papillion, NE USA)
The TV:

Setup is a breeze. The user interface is much improved over my old Samsung CRT. The picture quality from our digital cable box over HDMI is stunning. Everyone on TV is ugly and wrinkled....if you don't know this, you will after a day with this TV. The 120Hz Automotion Plus almost makes things look "too real." At first, we had to turn it off, but we're getting used to the clarity it provides. When watching standard definition channels, the black sidebars just fade into the bezel. They're pure black, not an annoying gray. I have nothing bad to say about the picture or sound quality from this television.

Only con to this TV thus far: It's a small point, but the front console buttons are labeled in a paint that does not contrast well with the touch of color bezel. I have to get my nose to within three inches to read the labels. Also, they're not pushbuttons, but contact pads. There's no physical separation between the button regions, so I can't even memorize the position and grope for them in the dark. Honestly, I've probably wasted too much breath on such a small problem. This complaint should in no way prevent you from buying this awesome TV!

The delivery service:

I was a bit apprehensive about ordering from Amazon because of all of the terrible TV delivery reviews. However, I decided that a bit of hassle and heartache was worth the considerable cash I was going to save. I'm glad I took the chance. CEVA/Eagle USA Airfreight was the carrier. The truck showed up on-time with the TV in pristine condition. The delivery man was pleasant, efficient, and performed excellently. I even tipped him for a job well-done.

 "Wonderful Picture!" 2009-07-25
By R. G.
This is the first TV we have purchased since buying a 46 inch Pioneer, sight unseen, in 1994. We began to have a sound problem with that one and our repairman said it would be wiser to spend the money on a new HDTV. After much research, I chose this Samsung, and we just love it!

The picture is incredibly sharp, clear, and the colors are perfect! We didn't care for the 'soap opera effect' of some movies but thanks to the internet, I was able to find out that turning off the Automotion Plus seems to fix the problem; it's not perfect, but it IS much better.

We do not subscribe to HD programming, but we do have DirecTV, and all of the channels are crystal clear. I can't imagine that spending an extra $10/month for HD would make it any clearer; we don't watch (or subscribe to) the networks anyway, and Fox News is clear as a bell.

We are very happy with this purchase and Amazon is wonderful to work with. I had to call them for a couple of questions and they were very gracious. Pilot delivered it to a local delivery guy who was very nice; he was unable to bring it any further than the front door, but I was amazed that he put it on a handtruck and brought it 2/10s of a mile down our driveway because his truck was too big!

Buy it... you'll like it! The price was sweet! The best I had found after a few days of research.

"Samsung LN52B630 is Awesome - We love it!" 2009-07-22
By D. McIntosh (Jersey City, NJ, USA)
Background:

I have been researching and holding out for a new TV upgrade over the past 2 years. Samsung was one of the very few manufacturers that offered the matte non-glare screens, which is necessary in our sunlight-filled living room. But I was always waiting for the right price. So when I was about to get the LN52A630, I heard about the new B series being released in 2009. So I had to wait for it with 120Hz of refresh and an upgrade from a dynamic contrast ratio of 40,000:1 to 80,000:1. Plus the look and shape of the B series seemed so much nicer to me than the A series. So Amazon had offered a free Sony blu-ray player with the purchase of certain Samsung models (including the LN52B630), and that was my cue to finally place my order on 7/4/09.

Delivery:

When I placed our order I originally set the delivery date for 7/15/09. Once I got the CEVA tracking number from Amazon's shipping notification email, I started to track our TV. It turns out one of their warehouses is located in PA and very close to NJ. Our TV was right in our vicinity on 7/7/09. So I gave CEVA a call about delivering early and they were more than happy to deliver the TV on 7/10/09. The delivery went well, and the communication I had with CEVA was great. The guys brought the TV up three flights of stairs, set up the TV on the stand, gently placed the TV on our console, plugged it in and then turned it on...

Product:

Picture - We started to switch channels to see how it looked. The picture is truly amazing. The default settings really do make movies look like a soap opera, which is really weird and fascinating at the same time. It does take some time to find the right settings for your environment and input type. It's great that once the settings are adjusted for a certain input it keeps the settings. There are so many different settings as well, which allow for a lot of flexibility to adjust for a certain device input. For cable we have the TV set on natural and AMP on clear. HD cable is great and standard cable is pretty good on a huge LCD screen. XBOX is on game mode and looks wonderful. My husband was dying to try Call of Duty on it and was totally blown away by the colors and picture on the screen. When it was time to check out the blu-ray, we played Baraka (which I totally recommend to appreciate the 1080p experience). It was unreal! The picture was stunning and the detail was unbelievable. It was like we were there in person.

Sound - Even though we have our B630 hooked to our surround sound receiver, I tested the sound from the TV. It's not bad and the volume is pretty decent, actually pretty loud even at half way.

Other - The B630 is a really attractive TV. Everyone has commented on the touch of red and thinks it's really cool. The available inputs are quite sufficient. Swivel stand is terrific for when I'm in the kitchen cooking or to just swivel around dependent on my whereabouts. The swivel stand is also a plus when getting to the back of the TV to easily work on the cables and inputs. Viewing angles are pretty good. Matte non-glare screen is wonderful too; there is no need to shut the shades during the day any more. Tested out the USB input with an external hard drive on media play and found the response time pretty fast for a television. The media play mode is quite intuitive and easy to use. Photos look amazing as well. I did notice the auto dimming during credits of movies and black screens. This happens when the Energy Saving option is used. We set the option to off and now the dimming is non-existent. InfoLink via ethernet is a nice feature, but limiting. I hope that Samsung makes an update to allow more widgets and online viewing. BTW, the ethernet is great for getting available firmware updates from Samsung. Firmware v1009 was available for download and the update was quick and seamless. Since I didn't have the TV long enough, I don't know what the firmware update improved, but the TV is working just fine.

We love our Samsung LN52B630. I have to shamefully admit that I have fallen asleep in front of TV almost every night for the past 12 days. My husband would normally be jealous, but he also shares the same feelings I have for our new TV. We highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. The TV has surpassed all of our expectations. Amazon has allowed us to have it at a terrific price and offered free great white glove delivery service as well. It's a winning combination and we couldn't be happier.

 "Highly recommended" 2009-07-21
By Ted (Dallas, TX)
I've had this TV a week and highly recommend it. Picture quality on digital HD cable and on Bluray is awesome. Even standard def channels look good. The ability to play digital video files (AVI, MKV, MP4) off a USB drive is really handy. Speakers are perfectly adequate for watching TV but they fall a little short on movies, so consider adding a soundbar. I don't care for the "Standard" 120Hz setting - makes the video look like a soap opera - so I turned it down to "Clear" and it looks much better. The "touch of color" red in the stand is an odd choice, but is hardly noticeable when you are sitting on the couch. Odds are your attention is going to be focused on the screen, not the stand, so I don't find this to be a problem. This is one of the few models with a matte screen (as opposed to glossy) and was the right choice for me as our room has several windows in it. Even during the day this screen is more than bright enough to avoid getting washed out. I also recommend setting the "black tone" to dark for watching movies as it makes the blacks a little deeper. There are a few network features, for stock quotes and the weather, but I find this to be of limited use.

I see no reason to spend several hundred dollars more to get the LN52B750...don't see how much better it could be to justify the premium. All in all, I am very happy with the LN52B630.

"Great Picture But After 1 year" 2009-08-01
By SMB (Maryville, TN)
TV was purchased on 07-15-08 and is used lightly only for cable and DVD viewing. Sixteen days(16) after the initial warranty expired (thank goodness I purchased an extended warranty in June) the TV did what sounded like a power reset and died. I am waiting for the repair folks to examine it, but it looks like planned obsolescence to me. I will post another review after I talk to the repair folks. It was great, while it lasted.

 "great tv" 2009-07-19
By momlania (saint louis)
I won't go into detail like the other reviewers, their information was extremely informative in the months leading up to our purchase of this tv. We researched for a long time and if you need a technical review the reviewers on here do a great job. After reading pretty much everything on the 650, we purchased it in April. It arrived and the "dirty" white glove installation was fine. Two guys arrived and were able to get the tv set up but didn't know why we couldn't get any channels (they didn't realize we had satellite I guess, not the smartest bunch). Anyway, hubby and I set it up later and loved it. A few weeks later we thought we had a pixel out, I was preparing for a battle based on some of the reviews, but the Amazon guy was amazing. No questions, very polite, it was a few minutes before close and he apologized profusely that he couldn't set up the return that very second and would do it first thing in the morning. He called very early the next morning and also sent a confirmation email immediately about the exchange. The new tv arrived quicker than the first but this time it was ceva (the first delivery was a different company, don't the have name right with me). Ceva sent one old fart to pack up old/bring in new tv. Ridiculous!! Wait til you see how big your new tv's box is. I had to help him take it down and switch it out. He had to drag the box across the carpet, which left marks. Had I been older or incapacitated in any way I don't know what he would have done. Regardless, we love the tv and have been very pleased with Amazon.

 "A Super HDTV..." 2009-07-07
By C. A. Trambley (Arlington, VA USA)
I purchased this TV at the end of January after the Super Bowl. The purchase price has since gone up some $400 on Amazon so I count myself lucky I got such a great deal. The delivery wasn't exactly white glove but the boys got the TV out of the box in one piece and placed it on my stand. As the other reviewers have noted, the picture is absolutely superb. Deep blacks, bright whites, stunning color contrast. If you've bought this TV and want to "wow" your friends, pull up the daylight tracking shot of Hong Kong from "The Dark Knight" on Blu ray. No words can describe the clarity and picture quality. At its current price, I can't say I'd recommend buying considering you can get the 52 inch Samsung 750 240hz version of this TV for only $200 more. If you do decide to take the plunge, you won't disappointed. I'm one happy customer.

I bought another 1080p last year, but I still was looking for the wow that you see in the stores, well this TV was even better of what I have seen in the stores. I am most impressed, the difference is huge and everyone that comes to my apt had something to say about it, not only the blu-ray is very vivid, but the HD cable is awesome!!. And the best part is that the price was really good, this TV used to be a lot more expensive. Love it!!.

I have had this TV for a couple weeks now. I usually view in a fairly dark room and have not noticed any halo or other anomalies. I'm really happy with it I would give it 5 stars but I haven't done enough critical viewing. I also haven't really toyed with the AMP settings but I wasn't blown away for normal viewing. Everything does look great without it. Oh, my wall color is very dark and I don't really even see the red ToC even during the day which is fine by me.

"Great TV Great Amazon Service" 2009-07-02
By W. Giacona (El Dorado, AR USA)
Love the TV and only had one problem with delivery. The first one they shipped was destroyed in shipping. But Amazon had a new one being processed for shipping before the truck was out of the driveway.

One minor negative about the TV. You pretty much can't use a TiVo remote to switch between picture sources. The Tivo will pull up the list of inputs and allow you to change but there is no way to then remove the source menu so you have to clear it with the TV remote.

I had the A550 model before this (it was stolen and the insurance company replaced it with the B550 model) and I like this one as much as the last one. My only gripe is that I don't like the clear plastic at the bottom of the tv (I realize it's for the red LED but I don't plan on using that).

Also, from the A550 page on Amazon, a reviewer offered some advice for the sound setup. [...] I think it needs a little more mid, but it should get you closer to a reasonable audio setting. If you have iTunes, open the equalizer and try out the presets to get a feeling for how to structure the audio settings (I prefer the jazz setting, for reference).

"Very good picture, with a litte bit of tweaking" 2009-06-29
By Sean U (New York, NY)
I received this tv as a warranty replacement for a 56" dlp. I was initially not happy to be getting a smaller screen, and I was not looking to own an lcd. My fears were unfounded, as the B550 is turning out to be an excellent set.

I have been tweaking the settings on this set using the HFCR software and a Spyder2. I'm not an expert... I just like tweaking to get as good a picture as I can out of the set. The grayscale tracking on the tv is excellent (once adjusted), and it can be controlled very well through the standard user settings (the gain and offset settings in the advanced menu).

The out of the box settings on the set are almost blinding, and on the cool side. Turn the backlight down to 4, set the mode to "Movie" and turn off all of the picture enhancements. The results after tweaking in the user settings and service menu have been *excellent*.

Info is very sparse about the 550 series. You can find lots of technical info here : [...]

In case anyone is looking for panel information, my set has a code of SS02.

I recently purchased a Blu-ray player, and the picture on the B550 is amazing.

The only downside I can come up with is that the contrast will drop as you move too far off center. The colors remain accurate, but a "haze" develops as you pass 45 degrees. The stand does allow the set to be turned, which makes this a non-issue for me, but if you are mounting the set on a wall, it may be a bigger issue.

I was very nervous about getting a 5-series Samsung. Don't worry if the 6 or 7's are out of your price range... the 5 series seems to be very capable of providing a great picture.

 "Outstanding Picture" 2009-08-10
By Leon Brasowski
The purchase of the LN52B750 respresented an upgrade to add a second HDTV for the family. While we really enjoyed our 3 year old Sharp 46in LCD; the Samsung just blows it away in the depth of the colors and how dark black can be. It is a little slow to wake up when you turn it on, but the enjoyment is worth the short wait. The internet is simplistic and not that useful; would not use that issue as a reason to purchase. Footballs fans, be ready for the sharpest picture one can enjoy, no matter how fast the action is... almost better than being there. No reason to go to the movies, I have the TV paired with a LG BD390 Blu ray player, and a Onkyno sound system with 7.1 channel Energy Speakers... great combo..

 "Another computer user's review of LN52B750" 2009-08-09
By C. Choi (Illinois, USA)
As is the case with numerous other reviewers, I spent several months reading popular reviews and discussions on different types of LCDs and Plasmas. (Thanks to all the reviewers for the time you spent providing these reviews, by the way. And, boy, they can really shape your expectations.) I was about to get a mid-end plasma along with a PS3, but the spouse didn't want to see the family wasting our time on video games, so I settled on this "high-end" model.

The first shipment arrived, and the delivery guy kindly noted the damages to the box. So, I decided to refuse the delivery. When the second delivery appointment call came in about 10 days later on a Friday, I decided that I couldn't wait until Monday, and asked if I could pick it up myself instead. When I got to the deliverer's, I was surprised to see how large the box was, but it fit in nicely in my SUV, with the 2nd and 3rd row seats flat, of course. (To set it up, though, I had to ask my neighbor for some help. There is definitely a good reason why they deliver and set up these TVs for you at your home.)

Since I do not own a Blueray DVD player yet, I decided to connect the TV to my computer and use it as a second monitor as well. (My first one is a 24" Samsung 244T.) Using an HDMI to DVI connector purchased from Amazon at around five bucks, the screen transferred pretty well from my ATI All-in-Wonder 1800XL to my new LN52B750. I could adjust the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz (optimal as suggested in the manual--oh, the manual was a physical book, BTW; build date--June 2009--confirmed while registering), and I couldn't sense any flickering at pretty much any resolution it gave me. I've seen plenty of plasma screens that exhibited flickering on computer hookups, and so I was very satisfied with this. The fonts beneath the icons seem a tiny bit fuzzy at a close distance but readable. The fonts when web-browsing or reading word documents are fine, though. The picture quality is excellent for still pictures and videos. I watched several standard definition DVDs with the ATI DVD player (software), and the picture quality is fabulous. I have the audio hooked up from the optical out (from an Intel motherboard) to a Logitech Z5500, which has a decoder embedded. Set up this way, the audio does seem to lag just a little bit, but not enough to ruin the movie. I'm hoping that the audio through a Blueray DVD player will get rid of this issue. (Or perhaps if I connect the audio from the computer to the TV and then connect an optical cable from the TV to the speakers... but I haven't tested this yet.) Watching YouTube through the computer is fine, depending on the picture quality. The HQ or HD videos are very nice.

I also wanted to see how computer games looked like (sorry I only have old ones). Playing Need for Speed Most Wanted really gives you a realistic experience. I also tried Star Wars Battlefront II, and the screen was cool, but I did feel a slight input lag, as one reviewer noted. So unless you play games that require extreme reflex (e.g., Combat Arms), I think it should be fine.

Since I have my TV hooked up to my router with a CAT-5 networking cable, I also tried out the Internet TV features. As other reviewers noted, the load time is dead slow. It's like having to wait for an old OS9 machine or an old Windows machine with only 128mb of RAM to boot up. It's nice that all the information will show up right on top of whatever you're viewing and won't change any channel or input settings. I only tried the weather and the YouTube widgets or whatever you call them. The interface looks really nice, but I agree with the other reviewers that those features are just too slow to actually use them for practical purposes. Perhaps, if you had these widgets on all day, it would be fine. The YouTube videos are fine as well. You can search for videos or choose to watch the featured/popular ones. Again there is a bit of a delay in the search results.

There's also some multimedia content embedded on a USB drive, I guess. They do have some relaxing pictures with music to enjoy. Some content such as art gallery, pictures (various categories), recipes, children's stories, and etc., are downloadable, but the existing memory had just enough space to download one extra category. I think if I attach a USB drive, there should be enough space to get all the free content that I'd want.

The latest accessory I added was a Phillips rabbit ear HD antenna that's about nine dollars. The HD-supported channels look excellent while others are not that nice. Mileage will vary on the aired channels for sure.

By the way, since I'm using the TV at such a close distance, I have the screen mode set to Movie and also have the energy saving set to low. I have not messed around with any other setting, and I find this to be comfortable for me. When I do watch movies at a distance, I sometimes turn the energy saving settings to off.

I think I'll end my review here and provide updates at a later time. Thank you to all the previous reviewers and thanks for taking the time to read mine. If you're reading this, Samsung, please consider providing a firmware update to speed up the Internet TV feature. Thank you!

 "Beats old analog TVs" 2009-08-02
By mesquiteguy (Texas, USA)
After studying LCD's for a couple of years, it was time to finally decide. Found this one on amazon after seeing it in a local store and had to send for it. Price was far better than I could have gotten locally. I was a little concerned about shipping but it was delivered in a box that was very protective. Set it up and have been very pleased with the picture. It really is a great picture. I had to adjust the picture as I'm sure everyone will have to set it up for their preference in TV viewing. Also ordered the articulating wall mount from Amazon and set it up with no problems except the lag screws are a little small and I broke one of in the wall while tightening it. Bought another at Home Depot and have it all set up on the wall. Can't believe I waited so long for a great picture.

"Fantastic Picture; Networking Extras Just OK" 2009-07-27
By J. Graf (Blacksburg, VA USA)
I bought this TV a few months ago from Amazon. Great price! My 2 cents is that you should buy this television for the picture, not the Internet and networking extras. The picture is why it gets a 5 star review - it will blow you and your friends away! Just note the following about its connectivity:

* Anything plugged into USB works flawlessly. I have watched HD and SD movies over USB with no problems. If you have a USB drive that can serve as your media (video/audio/picture) storage, you are set! Audio files and pictures are great off USB, too! I've tested digital cameras, iPods, and USB sticks successfully.

* The included media server software works just OK. (Install the software on your computer, and it lets you access the movies, music, and pictures from your PC over your home network.) Sometimes, though, you'll skip out of a movie and on to the next film on the server with no warning! Biggest gripe: when playing a move off of my PC using their media server software, you can't fast forward, rewind, or continue viewing from the last position! Read that last sentence a few times and tell me what Samsung was smoking when they shipped a media server without those features! Note that all the missing features are present if you are watching films off of a USB drive.

* The Internet@TV connectivity of this television just plain sucks - for now. There are so few Yahoo widgets out there now that it is worthless until the promised/hinted at future widgets (YouTube, Netflix) come out.

All this to say I am REALLY happy with the TV. It is a fantastic viewing experience that overshadows all shortcomings. Just don't buy it for the Internet@TV stuff! I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could have.

(Aside for the geeks: I have watched films in MKV, AVI, VOB, and MPG containers with H.264, Divx, and other MPEG codecs. The TV decodes them natively, though you will want to encode your movies in the proper aspect ratio. The TV cannot correctly interpret anamorphic encodings - e.g., if the video is in 16:9, encode it in something like 1600x900 pixels, or the TV will distort it in spite of your anamorphic settings.)

 "not impressed" 2009-07-27
By Jeffrey Vela (Ms.)
I have had this unit for approximately two weeks and mostly watching DVD's on it. This LCD does not live up to the quality that I researched and observed in stores. I have noticed blurring at times even when it is not an action scene. I purchased this set to be able to watch football games and from what I have seen so far, it will not be a pleasant experience. I have to admit that most of the time the pictures it very nice. I admit that I do not know much about setting up these new LCD's and the so called proffesional installers did not know anymore than I did. Perhaps there is some kind of setting or switch to adjust for better motion. I do not know but am trying to contact Samsung to find out. If I find that there is, I will write another review. This is suppose to be one of the best LCD's as far as motion ghost's.
