We initially purchased a 50" Samsung plasma. We live in Denver and could not stand the buzzing the TV constantly made. After the Samsung repairman came out and told us that's just how it's going ot be, we took it back to the store and exchanged it for the Samsung LCD. This TV is simiply amazing. I have not noticed any clouding and I watched The Matrix the other night. Also, we have it above the fireplace with a large sliding-glass door about 6 feet away; there is no glare at all. I'd recommend this TV for sure, you shouldn't be disappointed.

What a great picture! We have a 42" LG plasma that we love and we were worried that an LCD picture might not hold up to our standards. We were wrong, this TV is awesome. Gaming mode (xbox360) looks awesome, although both Ps3 and xbox don't have any games that truly take advantage of the 1920x1080 resolution. We hooked up our Mac mini to this thing and now have a complete entertainment system. Really excellent value for the money, Samsung got it right this time.

After months of research, I finally pulled the trigger on this baby in early Jan 07 (wanted to have the Superbowl in HD). Like most out there looking for a TV with these specs, I had it down to the Sharp and the Sony. What killed me was that out of every 10 reviews I read about those 2 brands, 3 were horror stories. Sharp with banding issues, sony with clouding issues... what to do? I suppose its true that any manufacturer can have lemons but id heard precious little going wrong with the Samsungs.



I have to say Im very happy with the set. Picture (I have HD DTV) is truly spectacular. (I cant beleive what I was watching before compared to this).



Now although I realize I cant compare this tv to my previous due to them being apples and oranges, Im very happy with both the picture quality and sound. The look of the tv doesnt hurt either (very slick).



Im very pleased that I did not get a lemon (although I did by the warranty just in case)... I bought it through Amazon for 3500$ with delivery and had it in 3 business days delivered by Fed Ex freight. I was shocked at how fast I got it... its taken weeks for me to gets books but here a 100+ lb tv gets to me on Wed and I ordered it online the previous Sat night.



Overall very pleased with Amazon and Electronics express and Samsung. Would recommend this tv and vendor.

 "Cloudiness ruined this set for me" 2006-12-31

I purchased this set back in December. The day I got it I noticed clouds that become very apparent when watching dark scenes in movies. It was very patchy and distracting. These clouds are the result of too much light leaking through the screen on certain parts of it and they really stick out when you turn the lights off and watch dark movies like "Batman Begins."



More technically, this clouding-effect is known as "mura."



Some websites suggest that massaging the screen with a cloth will help clear up the problem. I tried that and the problem got worse. This is a solution not found on Samsung's website or in their manual. They have not acknowledged this problem and they do not have any solution for it.



I called Samsung about the mura. They sent a tech out and the tech said it was a problem with the screen. I had the set exchanged. I got it last week and it also has a problem with clouds, and it was worse than the last set.



I made the decision yesterday to take the set back and I got it exchanged with a Pioneer plasma display and, so far, I am VERY happy with it.



I am not the only one who experienced this problem. If you check out the forums on [...] you will discover personal accounts of people who also own this set who are experiencing mura. These people also post pictures of this problem so you can see it for yourself. In my view, this is an unacceptable defect for a TV of this price.



This TV could have been a good one. It produces an outstanding high-definition picture that made me very happy, it has lots of useful inputs, and it is aesthetically pleasing. It's too bad that this defect with the screen ruined the entire purchase. It amazes me that Samsung is still ignoring the problem.



On a sidenote, Sony has a line of Bravia TVs that use the same panels that Samsung put in their 96D line and customers of those sets have also reported problems with mura. Please be advised that this is a widespread problem, yet Sony & Samsung are not acknowledging it.



Hopefully, if you buy this set, you will have better luck than I did. To be honest though, it's not worth the risk. If you get this set, and you notice these clouds, you will have to go through the headache of either returning it or trying to get a replacement set that does not have this problem. Either get another set or wait for LED LCD which is coming in five months.



LCD TV is great for smaller screens, but it has not yet reached the level of quality for big screens that Plasma is enjoying. If you want a big-screen flat-panel that is 42" or more, then go plasma.

Got this as an open-box item through Warehouse Deals which worked out completely well. The TV has, as others noted, a good picture and unimpressive sound; plenty loud, but tinny. But for a kitchen counter, it works, it set up rapidly and looks good whether on or off. And in the DTV channel era now here, the set is finding some very interesting channels being delivered by cable that I hadn't seen before.

We love this television--it has a great picture. We purchased it for our bedroom to use as our wakeup alarm. You can set the tv to come on at a certain time to a particular channel. Money well spent!

The image quality is excellent, but the audio is not very good, even after using menu adjustment of the audio. I bought two small, inexpensive, speakers to stand alongside the TV but have not yet tried them.

This was a perfect replacement for the old 13 inch CRT TV we had in the kitchen. It's compact and lightweight with a great HDTV picture off our amplified attic antenna. We're at least 20 miles from most stations and 60 miles from some (Batavia, Ohio not Detroit for this TV).

I am very proud of this purchase. It is the perfect size for my bedroom. The picture is great. The only thing I don't like is the plastic base. It looks a bit cheap. But, other than that, I have no complaints.

 "Broke twice within 13 months (12 month warranty)" 2009-06-28

I bought this item and everything seemed perfect. About three months later there was a circle of dead pixels in the top right corner (about the size of a dime) and every day a few more died. After a month I had a line three feet long of dead pixels. Contacted Samsung and one month later a repairman replaced the entire screen. ($1400 bill paid by Samsung due to warranty, it was a little over $2000 when I bought it)



I received a notice saying my warranty was going to expire and it would be somewhere around $500 for three more years. I thought what are the odds of two problems like that, most electronics last 4-6yrs without problems.



One week after the warranty expired when I turned on the TV there were purple pixels scattered throughout the screen. Turn off the TV and turn it on to fix the problem. About a week later when turning on the TV it would turn itself off, then on, then off, and on, for about five minutes.



The off/on cycle has gotten worse over the past few months so I searched for a fix and found that it's a common problem, typically after the warranty expires.

 "Customer Service is TERRIBLE!" 2009-01-28

I have now owned a Samsung 5265 LCD for 13 months. It has worked for 11 (actually this is the second TV after they replaced the first one with a refurb). The last repair was completed today after 33 days and 8 calls to Samsung. I now know that if you complain enough, you get to talk to the Executive Unit in NJ where Debbie, Jimmie, Shannon and Kathryn work. I have talked to each of them, but never could they tell me who in charge I could talk to) They have assured me that they have documented my complaints. Wink, Wink. This should have been an easy replacement of a power board, but the anti-customer friendly processes of Samsung led me to a month of sheer distraction. It was one bad experieince after another, hours of hanging on hold, being hung up on, being placated and being ignored. The repairman even contiunally bad mouthed Samsung saying most of the broken TVs he saw were theirs. Before he left he assured me he would be back to replace the power board again...but next time without a warranty. Its a real shame because the picture on the TV is great but it is not worth the hassle of dealing with the repair processes. I would warn everyone against Samsung.

I had a Samsung HP-P4271 1024 x 768 res. I bought only 5 years ago. I couldn't believe that this refurb was miles ahead of my old HP-P4250 what ever that is. First I paid $2200 for 42" of 1024x768 and 3000-1 contrast res max. With only one DVI-D input no HDMI. When I got my new HD sat receiver updated in Sept and the guy couldn't hook it up to my TV cause it had old DVI-D input So that's when I knew I needed a newer TV already. You can get the Yamaha new RX-V1900 7.1 surround @ 140W per chan w 4 HDMI inputs. You should put everything through that first. Blue ray, xbox, PS3, and computer. I'm HDMI crazy. They got to get rid of everything else and just leave HDMI.



So anyway I paid $1250 refurb at Compusa and $80 shipping freight. The Yamaha V1900 is around $1200 still cause its so new. But the V1800 got the same 4 HDMI inputs for around $800 online Then your set for COD4.

This TV is wonderful. Great picture. The only thing I do not like is that you can't PIP from one cable box. You have to feed it UHF as your second source to be able to watch 2 HD football games (assuming one of your games is being broadcast). And I have not figured out how to switch the audio back and forth from the PIP. Not sure you can.
